Welcome to Room 207!
My name is Mrs. Cortes and I teach all subject areas such as Reading, Science, Math, and Social Studies to 4th and 5th grade students. It is my pleasure to work with your son/daughter during this school year. I will make sure that your child feels safe and valued in the classroom as well as in the entire school setting.
I graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Master’s degree in Bilingual Elementary Education with a Spanish Endorsement. I recently received an ESL Endorsement from ACE (American College of Education). I enjoy spending quality time with my family, traveling, and running. I am currently reading Leonard M. Kennedy, “Guiding Children’s Learning of Mathematics”.
The education of your child is very important to me. I will make sure I provide every student with a high quality education. In order for your child to accomplish the learning goals by the end of the school year, I would like to ask for your complete support and cooperation. Please remember that parents are the first teachers at home. I am certain that working together will make a successful year for your child.
Starting this school year the MAP testing is going to replace Scantron testing. This test will be used school-wide to assess your child’s progress from the beginning of the year, to the middle of the year, then the end of the year. Although this test is more rigorous, it will identify the students’ strengths and weaknesses. I will use this data to develop lessons that will meet the needs of each and every one of my students.
I am excited and looking forward to making this school year a fun learning experience, where students are part of a safe learning environment and take responsibility of their own learning. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (773) 809-0750.
Appointment times: Mon-Fri. 8:20 - 8:40am or 3:50 - 4:10pm
Parent Volunteers Wanted: Please let me know if you can volunteer in the class a couple of hours a week. I would love to have you. We have so much you can help me with! Also, we need parents to come and talk to our students about careers. If you would like to share what you do with our students, contact me to arrange a time for you to come.
